Relea: Collagen-based chemically recycled leather for fashion goods
ReLea is a thesis project aimed at transforming scraps from the leather goods industry into new resources. Specifically, the selected by-product comes from the finishing processes of chrome-tanned leather, scraps that are difficult to treat due to the chemical substances they contain. The conducted experimentation led to the development of two materials: ReLea Core and ReLea Pulp.
For both materials, the binder is collagen extracted - through gentle chemical processes - from leather dust. ReLea Core is a material designed for the bag accessories industry and contains approximately 96% waste material; ReLea Pulp, on the other hand, is intended for the footwear industry and is made from a pulp of leather dust, collagen, and cardboard.
