Material selection for sustainability: the case of cosmetics packaging
The Cosmetics Industry has been on the spotlight from consumers, industries, organisations but also from academics of various fields regarding its sustainability practices. This field is analyzed with a focus on the packaging impacts due to the materials used.
The scope of this thesis project is to show through a material selection case study that is implemented on the packaging of a cosmetics product, that the use of alternative materials in the packaging can be also possible and mostly less impactful. The application of the guidelines for eco-compatible products is analyzed and it is highlighted the idea of packaging circularity and of the materials closed loops that can act in favor of the environmental sustainability.
