Re-Designing Materials from agricultural waste

The aim of the project was to revalorise industrial vegetable wastes from locally sourced crops via a sustainable and straightforward mild acid hydrolysis. Therefore, rye scarps were collected at the OFF CAMPUS Cascina Nosedo and turned into a fine powder through scissor chopping and grinding.

After this the powder was sieved in order to obtain particle size < 0.15 mm. At that point, hydrolysis in vinegar or diluted citric acid could begin. At the end of the hydrolysis reaction, all the samples were drop cast in petri dishes before letting them dry in the oven at 70 °C. Finally, the created film were analysed.
